Hat trick Callow makes it SIXsational for 2s whilst Walters marks her return with a goal for the 1s Meopham 2nds followed up their victory last weekend with another fine performance which resulted in 6 goals and 3 points against local rivals Gravesend 3rds. Meopham put G’s on the back foot from the first whistle with some solid attacking play and they found themselves one nil up early on. The goal came from their first short corner of the game as Liz Hryniewicz’s shot came back off the keeper and Tess Coller put away the rebound. Moments later, the combination should have doubled Meopham’s lead but this time the rebound was illegally stopped on the line by a G’s foot. The G’s keeper saved the resulting penalty flick to keep G’s in the game. Meopham continued to press and turned possession into goals with 2 in quick succession. The first came from a cross by Hryniewicz into the path of Frances Callow who calmly slipped the ball past the G’s keeper. The second came from a superb through-ball from Kim Parrin into the D for Hyrniewicz who controlled, spun and shot, leaving the keeper with no time to react. Going into half time at 3-0 the order of the day for Meopham was to maintain the same intensity in the 2nd period and with only 5 minutes played G’s had no way back as Rachel Hatter scored her first goal for Meopham. Hatter and Tina Heath played a quick one-two at the top of the D before Hatter took the ball round a G’s defender and powerfully shot home. That was quickly followed by a 5th goal for Meopham as Coller crossed for Callow to score a repeat of her first half strike. With nothing to lose G’s reverted to playing with 4 up top and managed to claim one back but defenders Janet Boswell and Julie Jansenns made some fine interceptions and tackles to ensure it was a mere consolation for G’s. With 10 minutes left on the clock there was still time for Callow to wrap up her hat-trick as she latched on to a cross from Vicky Hallett and finished with soft hands and great control. 1st XI take the points at Holcombe. Meopham 1s travelled to Holcombe for the weekend fixture. Meopham were the first to break through and held the lead at half time following a well taken goal by Wendy Walters. Holcombe were unlucky not to have drawn level when they saw Mel Frazier pull off a superb goal line clearance. Frazier was in the action again in the 2nd half but this time at the other end of the pitch when she converted a well worked move by the Meopham midfield to take the score to 2-0. Meopham maintained possession for most of the play until Holcombe converted a short corner towards the end of the game to take the score to 2-1 at the final whistle.

Match Report Saturday 14th Jan 2012
Heath scores her first for Meopham as 2nd Team celebrate victory in style Meopham 2nds managed to shake off their disappointment at losing in the dying seconds of the game the previous weekend to secure a 4-1 victory away from home against Tonbridge Wells. Meopham started the game brightly, maintaining possession deep in the Wells half and putting pressure on the Wells defence. With ten minutes on the clock Meopham earned a short corner following a skilful run by Rachel Hatter into the D that could only be halted illegally by a Wells foot. The ball was played to Maegan Fawcett at the top of the D who struck the ball home with power and accuracy into the bottom left hand corner. Meopham were able to double their lead not long after from a second short corner routine. This time the ball was played to Liz hrynewicz who shot towards the far post where Tina Heath was waiting to pounce. Heath’s shot was well saved by the Wells keeper but Heath followed up the rebound to calmly claim her first goal for the club. Meopham continued to dominate possession and seemed to be in complete control of the game when a loose pass in the midfield was picked up by a Wells forward, who played a neat one-two with her striking partner before slotting the ball into the back of the net. Meopham went into the break with a slender advantage but knowing the 3 points were there for the taking. From back to front Meopham passed the ball with accuracy and fluidity, moving the Wells players out of position to create numerous goal scoring opportunities but they found the Wells keeper in fine form. However, Kim Parrin eased Meopham nerves when she dribbled the ball across the top of the D before unleashing a fierce shot past the keeper. This seemed to deflate Wells and secure the 3 points for Meopham who continued to attack the Wells goal. Fawcett got her second goal of the match from a short corner with a carbon copy of her 1st strike as the Wells defenders stayed back on the line and there was no way back for Wells. Sleggy gets reprieve from sandwiches as 1st XI game is cancelled due to a frozen pitch!

Maja breaks thumb as Meopham fail to take chances
Shaking off the Christmas pudding was done too slowly by Meopham when they travelled to Herne Bay at the weekend. Meopham started the game with a lot of early possession despite an early set back of losing Maja Cizmic with a broken thumb resulting from a tackle in the Herne Bay D. Following a quick reshuffle of positions for a couple of players Meopham continued to apply pressure but were punished for not taking their chances when Bay scored from a short corner. Meopham played their way back into the game and created several first half equalising opportunities but somehow Bay always managed to get a slight touch on the ball to keep it out of the net.
Bay came out the quicker team in the second half and swiftly doubled their lead. Meopham were jolted into action and again had opportunities to half the arrears but just could not force home the ball. Bay took a quick break off a Meopham attack to make it three. Meopham finally pierced the armour of Bay from a pinpoint strike at a short corner by Georgia Sheppard. Meopham continued to fight and make chances but had to accept the final score of 1-3.

1st XI take points on the ice at Remnants
Meopham Ladies 1st XI travelled to Eltham College to find the pitch frozen due to the cold weather. Fortunately the pitch defrosted sufficiently for the game to go ahead. Meopham quickly warmed up with a frenzied assault on the opposition. Intensive play in the Remnants half eventually (after many attempts) led to Meopham’s first goal scored by Mel Wolfe slotting home a cross from Gemma Tuley. Meopham continue to dominate the first half but failed to convert any other chances. A delicate knee slide on the pitch by Maegan Fawcett proved that she has what it takes to audition for next years Strictly Come Dancing or is that dancing on ice! Bev Green showed all those years as a stunt double finally paid off after she up ended herself and landed not so delicately on her rear end!!! Maja was congratulated on her scoping strategy from the never ending barrage of instructions thrown at her by Elam and Green. She ended up being stuck not knowing whether to go wide or stay in the middle! The final whistle was blown with Meopham winning 2-0 and gaining another three points.
